They are created by crossing a female Siberian husky with a male Pomeranian. They are bred by artificial insemination and responsible breeders are constantly striving to perfect their programs, producing the best quality Pomskies possible!
A well-educated Pomsky should be in excellent health and have a friendly, outgoing disposition. They should have the appearance of a miniature husky averaging 10 to 25 pounds. Since they are such a new breed there will be variations, however quality breeders will work to refine their programs so that they can eventually be consistent and reliably know what to expect from most litters. To do this, breeding stock must be carefully selected.
Be wary of breeders using American Eskimos instead of a Pomeranian stallion, they will often still call their puppies "pomskies", but the puppies will generally have a more robust appearance and will be much larger and more adult. Also, American Eskimo temperaments are very different from Pomeranians and that will be reflected in the puppy.
Here at Northern California Pomskies, we have been breeding Pomskies since 2014. We began founding our program with Siberian and Pomeranian huskies. Building our lines over time, our breeding pomskies go back several generations. We start by selecting small female husky ranging in size from 35 pounds to 45 pounds as a base. We also used only male Pomeranians that weighed no more than 9 pounds, the smallest was 3.5 pounds. It is important to know these details because it will make a difference in the adult size of future puppies. Although health and temperament are always our number one priority, we work towards the majority of our Pomskies to be 10-25 pounds, with the exception of 75% Husky puppies that can weigh 25-35 pounds.
The quality is evident when you look at a responsible breeder past puppies and when you speak to them personally, their experience, passion and knowledge will shine through. We urge all potential new owners to choose their breeder responsibly. New "pomsky" breeders are showing up all the time and the sad truth is that many have little to no knowledge about breeding and are not even very familiar with canine health and behavior. They have no passion for what they do and sadly they are only looking to make a profit.
What is a Pomsky?
A pomsky is a cross breed between a Siberian husky and a Pomeranian, often called a "Pomeranian husky mix." The pomsky resembles a smaller husky and is quickly becoming one of the most popular breeds in the United States.
Are pomskies something new?
Pomsky Homeowners Association Logo Pomskies are a very new and exciting breed; in fact, the first generation of pomskies are still alive today.
Pomskies were first bred in the early 2010s and quickly became an overnight sensation in 2013, having since become one of the most popular breeds in the United States.
How do you raise a pomsky?
All pomskies are raised from a female Siberian husky and a male Pomeranian by artificial insemination.
What are the different types of pomskies?
There are three variations of the Pomeranian husky mix:
- 50/50
- 25/75
- 75/25
The most common pomsky is a 50/50 - This is a pomsky bred from a pure Pomeranian and a pure Siberian Husky, which means it is 50% Husky and 50% Pomeranian.
A 25/75 is a pomsky bred from a 50/50 pomsky and a pure Pomeranian, which means it is 25% husky and 75% Pomeranian. This variation of the pomsky is smaller than the 50/50, with more distinguished Pomeranian characteristics.
A 75/25 is a pomsky bred from a 50/50 pomsky and a pure Siberian husky, which means it is 25% Pomeranian and 75% husky. This variation of the pomsky is only slightly smaller than the average female husky and will act and look like a husky. This is the least common breed of pomsky, it is usually only bred so that the breeder can obtain this type of mother or father for a future litter mix.
How big is an adult pomsky?
An adult adult pomsky is approximately 10-15 inches tall
An adult adult pomsky is about 12 to 17 inches long, 10 to 15 inches tall (from the floor to the shoulder blade), and weighs about 20 to 30 pounds.
The size of an adult pomsky largely depends on the parent and the type of cross breed. The breeder will not be able to guarantee the size, but will be able to provide an estimated height and weight based on the mother and father of the litter.
On average, a 50/50 mature pomsky ranges from:
- 10 to 15 inches tall
- 12 to 17 inches long
- 20 to 30 pounds of weight
- This size of a pomsky varies dramatically based on the parents of the litter and could range anywhere from 8 to 35 pounds, especially for a 25/75, which will be closer to the size of a pure Pomeranian. Consult your breeder if you are looking for a pomsky of a certain size, they will be able to provide you with a rough estimate of the litter size based on the parents and can provide you with an estimated size based on the growth of pomskies within the first few weeks after birth.
How fast do pomskies grow?
A pomsky generally reaches full size in a year. At six months, the pomsky is more than half full; In a year, you can expect your pomsky to be almost fully developed.
At what age are the breeder's pomskies sold?
This depends on the breeder, but in most cases pomskies are offered for sale around 4-5 weeks of age.
How much do pomsky puppies cost?
The price of a pomsky ranges from $ 1,500 to $ 4,000, depending on the quality of the puppy and the breeder. Certain brands and eye color can raise the price by about $ 4,000.
Anything much higher than $ 4,000 or much less than $ 1,500 is probably a scam, so be careful!
